| Big Brothers Big Sisters Harrisonburg & Rockingham Co. | Big Brothers Big Sisters of Harrisonburg & Rockingham County provides one-on-one mentoring to children between the ages of 6 and 14. Children matched in the program come primarily from single-parent homes and are in need of extra guidance and support from a responsible adult. Children are paired with carefully screened adult volunteers (18 or older) and spend several hours a week with their match, either in the community or school setting, for a minimum of 1 year. There are no socioeconomic factors or fees that prevent families from benefiting from services. Our services are offered free of charge to any child living in the Harrisonburg or Rockingham area. Parental consent and cooperation, however, is very important. Big Brothers Big Sisters is committed to helping build strong, emotionally healthy children who will grow up to be responsible, caring adults. |

There is no fee to join 4-H. 4-H is a program conducted through Virginia Cooperative Extension. These universities provide 4-H with research based non-biased information. 4-H youth have the opportunity to explore various projects of interest with over 200 projets in 46 subject areas. 4-H is aimed at developing life skills of the youth participating. 4-H develops, understanding of self, communication, leadership and citizenship skills, as well as problem solving and decision making skills.
